What are the most recommended free web hosting sites?
Q. I'm planning to build a website but since geocities free hosting has shut down, I have to find another web host that is easy to use, navigate, has efficient web tools and has faster loading time. Could anyone share any web host sites and their advantages and disadvantages so I can compare which one is the best? Thanks.

A. Hi galaxyangel_mint, The criteria you mentioned seem to apply only to reliable paid hosting. I don't know why you insist on free hosting service because from the business point of view, they don't provide reliable server to run your website, even though you upgrade to become their paid users later on. When you face an urgent matter, they can't help you instantly since they only provide email support. But if you're building a personal website just to share with your closed friends and family and not using it as a business platform, then that probably justifies your choice. I personally would not recommend any free web hosting service for my clients who run businesses because they really stinks. I've used several of them when I first… [cont.]

What is hosting regular season games in Europe going to accomplish?
Q. I don't get what the NFL is hoping to accomplish by hosting regular season NFL games in London. They are all too weak and sissy to understand a real sport,t hey'd rather watch weak sports like soccer, rugby and cricket.
Asked by Df W - Wed Apr 22 12:59:35 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The NFL is still trying to expand the fan base outside of the US. This would eventually produce more revenue if it does take off. Using our current NFL is a lot cheaper than going with the old Euro league of redshirt and bench players of the NFL. On top of that, the games that were played overseas or in Mexico were all stadium sellouts. Although football is not as popular in other countries, there are foreigners that like the sport. Soccer, Rugby and Cricket are their preffered sports much like football is our prefferred sport. They are totally different sports with different rules and really should not be compared even if it has some similarities. I don't fully understand the game of soccer, rugby, or cricket and have no interest… [cont.]

How does hosting the Olympics benefit the host country?
Q. Aside from economics, and worldwide attention/recognition - how else does the host country of the Olympics benefit from hosting the games? Please include two or more ideas that would be worth researching as part of a paper. Also, what counter claims can I make for economics and worldwide recognition?
Asked by raceface - Tue Nov 11 22:30:11 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cities who host the Olympic Games must commit to significant investments in sports venues and other infrastructure. It is commonly assumed that the scale of such and event and the scale of the preparation for it will create large and lasting economic benefits to the host city. Economic impact studies confirm these expectations by forecasting economic benefits in the billions of dollars. Unfortunately these studies are filled with misapplications of economic theory that virtually guarantee their projections will be large. Ex-post studies have consistently found no evidence of positive economic impacts from mega-sporting events even remotely approaching the estimates in economic impact studies

A. The best process for finding the right fit for you when it comes to web hosting is elimination. You need to look at several options. First compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. This will ensure that you get the best fir and the most for your money. You can take a look at the host that I use as one of your options. They also have a great tutorial video on their website that will help you to understand the benefits. I will gladly try to answer more of your website questions. best wishes!

How does domain hosting work for sites that later become exceptionally popular?
Q. Say popular sites that we all visit, Google, Yahoo, popular messageboards, other search engines. When these sites initially start out do they use some average hosting site like Go Daddy, etc?
Asked by Rick - Sat Sep 29 01:30:08 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can start small and use shared hosting. If traffic becomes big, then you move to a dedicated server where only your site is in that box. Or you can buy your own box and host your site yourself if you are capable Most of the big companies, in anticipation of traffic and the fact that they have investors and venture capital funds to back them up, buy and maintain their own servers. They will use some third party services such as Akamai for load balancing, but most of the sites you mentioned are tech oriented sites so they already have techies on board who can maintain and create their own servers and not use services such as Go Daddy

Whats the difference between Ircd and Shell hosting?
Q. I want to start my own Irc server. Whats the different kinds of hosting available, and can anyone recommend a hosting provider?
Asked by XZ3R0 - Sun Jul 26 05:40:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ircd will run an IRC daemon on the server for you. You only get to control it - no other aspects of the server. Shell hosting means that you can log into the server and execute any commands that you like, probably over ssh. That means that you can run an IRC daemon, but also a lot more stuff at once such as a web server. It is also harder to set up and maintain. I recommend or for a shell server. They are both virtual private servers, so that it's as if you have a whole computer to yourself, and you get to be the administrator. There are several virtual servers running on one real machine. I'm afraid I've never used dedicated IRC hosting so can't comment on that.

A. There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. It is very important that you choose a good web host. Good doesn't mean expensive. Good means reliable with great support. Some people try to save money and choose to go with a free web host. They usually realize pretty quickly what a huge mistake that is. I m all for free whenever possible, but free web hosting will end up costing much more than you save. It can be confusing when choosing a web hosting company because they all look pretty much the same and they seem like they know what they are doing. What is proper etiquette when hosting a dinner party with seated service and multiple courses?
Q. What is proper etiquette when hosting a dinner party with seated service and multiple courses? For example: How do you proceed if a few of the guests are slow eaters? Is it appropriate to make the rest of the dinner guests wait or to clear each course after a specific amount of time and serve the next?
Asked by Captain Commando - Sun Mar 22 11:24:29 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Unless the wait becomes really tiresome (and that becomes clear by the fidgeting of the guests who are waiting for the next course) then each course is served to all guests at the same time. If the conversation at the table is lively, most people will not notice that there are laggers; but should the wait become difficult, simply announce the next course and have it served. The laggers will wither relinquish their plates, or ask that they be left. In that case, honor the guest's request. You'll sometimes find, particularly at a multiple course meal, that some will not eat all they are served. It is not necessarily a signal that the food is unsatisfactory, but may be a sign that portions are very generous.

A. How wonderful that you are considering opening your home to someone! I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with Youth For Understanding (YFU). I will not pretend that YFU is the only good exchange program around, but we have had a very good experience with it. The first student we hosted was with another program (that no longer exists) and we learned a few things during that time. We then moved out of State (twice) and so had a decade gap in hosting. After we got into the position to host again, we called our school to see if they had any recommendations - they didn't - and then did a little research. We started by calling agencies listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit… [cont.]

A. I recommend Dreamhost They're the best: 1. You get a free domain from them (actually 2 if you use the promo code, more about that later) 2. They have 500 GB of Disk Space and increasing 3. 5TB (5000 GB) of Bandwidth and increasing 4. You can use their huge Disk Space and host multiple sites on a single account. 5. Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion 6. You can use the Promo Code: PLUS (at sign up page) and get a $50 discount + 2 Free Domain Names 7. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month) Disk space: 500 GB Bandwidth: 5000 GB 2 Free domain names Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

What is the difference between linux hosting and windows hosting?
Q. Friends, I'm going to host a website. what is the difference between these both hosting? please explain it clearly. I'm going to use php in my site. which one is best for that?
Asked by giridharanbtech - Sat Jan 30 06:22:06 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Both will offer Php, if installed. Linux hosting is the most common (75% of the market). It is cheaper, since it uses Open Source languages. It is faster (since Unix is faster than windows). It is relatively free of bugs, as bugs are, usually, corrected within days. Window based systems are less common (25% of servers). It is expensive, since it uses closed sources (Microsoft) for which you have to pay, repay and re-re-pay endless licence fees. It has bugs that have never been addressed (MS prefers to issue a new system than correcting mistakes) There is no choice, really! Users of Window based servers, ASP, JSP, .net have more money than brain.
