How is fixed cost relevant to a model of perfect competition?
Q. So i've been taking some econ classes and i'm having problems understanding how fixed costs are related to pure competition. Any help would be much appreciated!!
Asked by cougarball - Wed Oct 17 23:35:59 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Fixed costs are things like rent, insurance etc. In the perfect competition model, if everyone has the same fixed costs then the companies that thrive are the ones that are better at the business they are in. Meaning the management is better at running the business. A good analogy is NASCAR. All cars have to meet the same standards. So why does one racing team win over another? Better management.

How can you stop a fixed male cat from spraying on everything?
Q. I have a 3 year old male cat. He is fixed, but he pees (sprays) on everything and you can't get rid of that smell! How do I stop him. He does it on anything left on the floor (backpacks, papers, etc.), furniture, the Christmas tree!! I love him and don't want to get rid of him. Can this be fixed?
Asked by jmd625 - Fri Dec 15 12:54:07 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I had the same problem. Make sure he always have a reasonably clean litterbox. Mine was picky, and if it wasnt clean enough (litter change DAILY) he would pee elsewhere. You might want to have more than one also. (one upstairs, one downstairs, etc.,) Also make sure you are getting the scent out of places he has peed. You might not smell it, but boy he can. He'll continue to pee where he has marked. Try vinegar and things like that. Also you could try a different brand of litter. Mine will only use the clay, otherwise they go elsewhere. Lastly, if nothing else works, have your vet give him the onceover to make sure there is no bladder infection or other urinary problem. Good luck!

Where can i get an exhaust leak fixed the cheapest?
Q. I have a 1990 accord lx and it sounds like a cessna. I assume it's an exhaust leak somewhere, but I don't want to spend too much money on fixing it. Where can I have this fixed for cheap?

A. Most radiator shops work on exhausts. Or a Muffler place. Most are very reasonable. But if you know where the leak is and it is on the muffler itself, you can buy Muffler tape, apply as directed for a cheap fix

What measures should i take to get my ac fixed at my apartment?
Q. My ac in my apartment has been out for at least 2 weeks. I live in Texas so it's starting to get hot out here. It has been 90 degrees for 2 weeks and it's so hot. The apartment says they're going to fix it but there are SO many other problems that need to be fixed first. What can I do or who can I call to get this fixed?
Asked by Ofalyn H - Thu May 20 18:27:38 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. AC is not legally a necessity as it may seem like it should be. It is seen as an amenity, not legally required to be included and there for not a priority. This needs to be addressed the same as all minor repairs. You need to send them a certified letter stating the needed repair. Just calling them does not cut it. They then have X # of days to fix it. This # varies by state. You can then call a licensed contractor (an HVAC tech in this case) to fix it and take only that amount off the next months rent. Make sure you give them a copy of the paid invoice.

How do you do the accounting for fixed assets purchased in a foreign currency?
Q. When a company purchases fixed assets in a foreign currency, do they value the fixed asset back into the USD amount at the date the asset was acquired or what? The asset is being carried on the foreign subsidiary's books at the amount in Japanese yen. I'm a little confused about this. Can someone provide details, or provide a source where I can find good information on this topic? Thanks.
Asked by antec0721 - Thu Mar 27 18:48:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You just translate the Yen price to USD cost at time of acquisition and it stays at that cost thereafter. You don't revalue foreign currency non-monetary assets. However you still follow the rest of the standards, like perform the impairment test, etc

How old should my female cat be to get fixed?
Q. I have a siamese that is 1 year and 3 months old and it is not fixed yet. What's the maximum age I should wait to get her fixed? How old are they when they get their period?
Asked by skankyourart - Thu Jun 10 19:05:20 2010 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cats don't get a "period" like humans do...they have "heat" cycles. When a female goes into "heat", she'll rub all over everything, crouch down with her butt in the air, moan & howl like she's dying, and try her best to "escape" out the door to go find a mate. If your female has never done this, you're lucky...and you should get her in to be spayed ASAP, BEFORE she comes into heat. Females who are spayed have a lower risk of developing CANCER of the reproductive glands in the future. AND...they live a much healthier & happier life...no "heat cycle" ( drama ) and mating behavior ( trauma ). A tom cat's penis has "barbs" on it, and when he removes it from the female IT HURTS...so, she yowls, spits, and rolls around. Unless you want a… [cont.]

what is the definition of a fixed pitch propeller?
Q. What does it do? What is special about it? Anything you know about a fixed pitch propeller.
Asked by dolphinswim1001 - Thu Apr 20 17:04:49 2006 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. "Pitch" describes how much the blade of the propeller is twisted relative to the path it travels as it turns. This is also known as the angle of attack, and is usually measured in inches. Imagine the propeller turning through the water or air. If it moves forward following the angle of the pitch perfectly, and moves forward 10 inches in one full revolution, it is said to have a pitch of 10 inches. A fixed pitch prop cannot be adjusted or changed. It has one pitch, which is usually a compromise between speed and power. In a boat, a power prop might get a water skier up on skis quickly, but not be able to go very fast once they are up. A speed prop would mean that the boat could go faster than the power prop, but would have trouble… [cont.]

How can I get my credit fixed with my ex missing mortgage payments?
Q. My ex has defaulted on mortages with properties he was awarded in the divorce. My credit has dropped to 524 from 750 in two months. I contacted the big three credit agencies and disputed that they are no longer my properites but the mortage companies said that the divorce decree doesnt matter and that I am still responsible. How can I get this fixed without dealing with another attorney? Is there any law on the books to protect me from his mistakes?
Asked by grlnmotion - Wed Nov 25 20:12:52 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. So your divorce decree didn't require him to refinance the mortgage under his name only? Big mistake. You could end up having to pay for a house that he lives in! Talk to your ex about paying his bills on time. At this point, you probably can't take your name off the mortgage because if your ex isn't paying his bills, he's probably not in the kind of financial situation where the bank would let him have the entire mortgage in his name only. His only realistic options are to pay his bills on time or sell the house. As long as your name is on the mortgage, there's really nothing you can do about him hurting your credit - unless you're willing to help pay the mortgage.

How can I get my computer fixed without risking someone looking at my confidential files?
Q. I have an HP laptop which will not start anymore. I know the problem is not the powercord, but beyond that I don't where the problem lies. I'd like to take it in somewhere to get it fixed, but I'm afraid someone there will snoop into my private confidential files. Any suggestions?
Asked by KB - Tue Dec 16 22:26:11 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's 100% illegal for a computer repairman to go snooping through client's files. If you find out that they may have gone through them (easiest way is to see when the last time the file was opened is), you can get them in a lot of trouble, and can even bring it all the way to the court system. Don't worry, it's unlikely that they'll go through it.

A. running backstays are two stays from the mast to each corner of the stern. These stays include tension adjustment pumps that give you an ability to better tune the fore and back stay loading and mast position.

How old should a male chihuahua be to get fixed?
Q. Hi, I have a 5 month old male chihuahua. I was wondering how old should a male dog be to get fixed/sprayed. Our new vet is very expensive so I was wondering the average price it would cost for the puppy to get fixed too.
Asked by bumbles98 - Wed Oct 14 18:51:00 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most vets say between 4-6 months but honestly you can get it done earlier. The humane society gets their puppies spayed and neutered at two months. So yes, most people say 4-6 months. Now is the time to do it. Price just depends on each vet. Expect maybe $100-200. Call your vet and ask.

Q. Very theoretical. Also, What are some of the consequences of imposing a particular cultural model (fixed or fluid) on another culture? In a firm fixed priced contract from the government, when do you get compensated?
Q. I'm starting up my own IT company that will be going after government contracts. I'm currently going after a firm fixed-priced contract but since this is my first contract, I'm worried about quitting my job before I see any money. When do you get paid from a firm fixed-priced government contract?
Asked by deflagg - Thu Oct 1 18:13:32 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Normally, the payment terms are negotiated in the contract. It can take multiple forms, but with IT, it is usually based on milestones. Such as: Delivery of requirements = 10% of contract paid. Delivery of system design proposal = 15% of contract paid Delivery of system for user testing = 30% of contract paid. Also, the contract will have the amount of time for payment. Usually, you invoice monthly and are paid 30 days after that. So, if you do work in June, you send an invoice July 1st for June's work, and are paid for that in early August. If this worries you, you could see if you could get hired as an employee with a government contractor. Of, stay with your day job for a while longer and do this work weekend/nights on the side… [cont.]

How often do people get fixed rate mortgages that terminate after a certain period?
Q. remember the period of 2003 people got their fix rate mortgages from their adjustable rate mortgages...and wanted to know how common it is for some during this period got fix rate mortgages which were for only a specific length of time ?? why would anyone only get a low fixed rate for a specific length of time?? what are the advantages? Thanks for your answers!
Asked by :) - Fri Nov 28 18:27:06 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's a fixed period/adjustable rate loan. They come in 3,5,7, and 10 years fixed periods. The reason why people get these types of loans is because during the fixed period, the payment is only on the interest and is lower than if you had a 30 year fixed rate loan where you'd pay for both the principle and the interest. The reason why you would not want to get this type of loan is that you probably cannot afford the monthly payment after the loan adjusts and you may loose your home due to foreclosure if you do not refinance before the adjustment date.

Asked by SZ - Fri Apr 17 16:51:22 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Interest Income on bank FDs is treated as Income from Other Sources . This is one of the 5 Income Heads. You have to file an ITR only if your total income, from all the 5 Income Heads, during the previous year exceeded the maximum amount which is not chargeable to income-tax. If your Interest Income on bank FDs was your sole source of Income during the previous year and exceeded Rs 1,50,000/- , then you have to file an ITR. The Interest Income on bank FDs is earned by the 1st named holder, when they are held jointly and hence that person is liable for paying tax.

Asked by Techno-cake - Sun Sep 20 19:09:10 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Probably not. Even if he does, it will be seldom, and his urine won't have the horrible smell of tom cat urine. If he's not feeling stressed about marking territory, I doubt he will. Our boy Hadji (also found as a tiny black kitten!) only sprayed occasionally and when he was outside where other cats were, never in the house. He was neutered young.

What are the normal symptoms for a male fixed kitten?
Q. I recently adopted a kitten from the SPCA he was fixed quite early on at about 11 weeks and he didn't need any stitches. I am concerned as his genitials (balls) have gone black, hard and little scabby. He licks them quite a bit. There doesn't seem to be any infection. But I am just concerned if this is normal.
Asked by reebee_nz - Mon Jun 2 21:15:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cats do not require stitches when they are neutered. The vet who neuters kittens for the shelter at which I volunteer uses weight, not age, as a guideline. He neuters kittens when they weigh 2 1/2 pounds. Your kitten's age should not be a problem. If I were you, I would call the SPCA from which he was adopted and ask for their vet to check him. What you are describing is not normal. The vet who performed the neuter should check him free of charge. If this cannot be arranged, have your vet (if you don't have one, select a vet that you intend to use for your kitten) and have the vet check the kitten. Do this ASAP. Better safe than sorry. Good luck and please post an update!
